Yoga Poses to Improve Digestion

Indigestion is a common occurrence in parties and dining out especially when you subject your stomach to large amounts of food. This causes bloating on our part not to mention a feeling of discomfort especially when our tummy is quite full. Most people with pop some Tums to alleviate bloat but there are other more effective ways to boost one’s digestion. As a matter of fact, a few minutes of yoga can solve this issue of yours in no time.

When it comes to boosting one’s digestion, these yoga poses are guaranteed to help you out.

Twisted Triangle. This pose is designed to target the core muscles and can aid in your digestion. To do this pose, you will need to stand with your feet at hip-width apart. Your right toes should be pointing forward while the left toes are at a 90 degree angle. Reach your right arm and place hand on the floor inside the left foot. You should twist your torso towards your left with your left arm extended overhead. Hold this pose for a few seconds while taking a deep breath then go back to first position. Repeat with the other side.

Knees Hugged to Chest. Another yoga pose that can help relieve bloat is hugging your knees to your chest. Lie down on your mat and just relax. On inhale, place your hands on your knees then on exhale, hug your knees toward your chest. To maximize your stretch, rock your knees from side to side. Stay in this position for five to ten breaths before releasing. You can repeat this as many times as you want.

Wheel Pose. Backbends are perfect for giving your torso, abdominal muscles, including your hip flexors. For this yoga pose, you will need to lie down on your back first with your knees bent and feet pressing down on the floor. Your hands should be positioned beside your ears with your wrists twisted so that your fingers are pointing forward. Press down on your hands and feet to lift your head and body off the floor. Hold this pose for a few counts while taking deep breaths then release.

Spinal Twist. Another yoga pose that can help soothe your tummy and ease indigestion is the spinal twist. Lie down on your mat and hug your knees toward your chest. On exhale, drop your knees toward your left. Use your left hand to push your knees down gently. Turn your head to the right while stretching your right arm out as well. Hold this pose for 5 to 10 breaths. Inhale deeply then return your knees to the center. Repeat the steps mentioned but going the other side.

Alleviating your indigestion and bloat can be done without resorting to medication. Think yoga poses like the ones mentioned above and you will be able to boost your digestion to beat back bloat and other tummy woes that can hinder your movements for the day.
