Tips for Sensitive Skin Care

Must read

Are you constantly struggling when taking care of your skin? Is the product that you are using making you break out in pimples and rashes? It may be that you have a sensitive skin that gets irritated quickly when exposed to chemicals and other environmental factors. How then will you be able to care for your sensitive skin?

The good news is that there are several steps that you can make use of that will help you manage your sensitive skin. Here are a few that you should try out.

Test first

If you bought a new skin care product, instead of applying it directly all over your face, you might want to test it on a small portion of your skin such as at the back of your ear. Wait for 24 hours to see if there is any irritation forming. If there is none, apply a small amount near your eyes and wait another day. If the coast is clear, it means that your skin can handle your new product.

Use oils or balms for cleansing

For those who will be starting a skin care routine for their sensitive skin for the first time, you should go for balms and oils when you want to cleanse your skin. It is understandable that when you start cleansing, you will find that your skin is feeling free from oil and can actually be quite squeaky too. Well, this is not what you want to achieve because dry skin can be prone to break outs since there is no protective barrier at all. If you want to keep your sensitive skin looking good, make use of balms or oils as they can give your skin an extra layer of protection.

Hypoallergenic may not be good for you

There is a common misconception that hypoallergenic is safe to use on sensitive skin. Unfortunately, this is not always so. Since manufacturers don’t have to disclose all the ingredients that they use, there is a chance that there are irritants still present in the product which can irritate your hypersensitive skin. That said, it is best that you do a patch test first before anything else.

Wash once a day

We grew up being told by our parents to wash as often as possible in order to remove the dirt and other elements that cling to our skin. Unfortunately, too much washing can make our skin become dry, which can exacerbate our skin’s sensitivity. You see, bacteria do play a role on our skin which means that, without it, our skin’s pH levels can become unbalanced. A good rule here is to simply wash your skin once a day to retain the oils and bacteria.

Moisturize

Having sensitive skin means that your skin will become more vulnerable to various irritants and environmental factors, unless you have a good skin care regimen. Make it a point to moisturize your skin two times a day, once in the morning and once at night to ensure that you are preventing water loss from happening. Another plus to moisturizing your skin regularly is that it can create a protective barrier on your skin that will give it extra protection for your skin.

These are just a few tips on how you will be able to maintain your sensitive skin. This way, you will be able to prevent breakouts in the future since you are maintaining the moisture and protective barrier on your skin. With the right skin care routine on place, your skin will be looking good even when you expose yourself to the environment.
