Suffer No More: Natural Home Remedies for Oral Thrush

Must read

Oral thrush or in its very serious sounding medical term: oropharyngeal candidiasis. It is a pretty common type of yeast infection that affects your mouth and tongue. When not looked after properly this spreads to the tonsils and back throat. The fungus Candida albicans which is responsible for this hellish suffering gets through the body’s defense system if on a certain day your immune system is down and specifically cannot battle against Candida and comes in contact with it. Remember to keep cleanliness in mind. The cleaner your mouth, the weaker the fungus becomes. There are many cheap and natural remedies that don’t taste bad.

Oral thrush is signified by slightly raised, creamy-cloudy white lesions which starts on the tongue or inner cheeks. Infants, the elderly and anyone with a low immune system is more susceptible to this ailment but anyone can get this.

Let’s do a list run down, a very helpful one filled with cheap, non-toxic household materials.

1.) Salt

Salt is so cheap especially sea salt and is said to be the best remedy for oral thrush. It creates an inhabitable environment for the fungus which kills them off more swiftly. You can always be direct, brutal and crazy like me by rubbing salt on these lesions with clean fingers. You can also mix a full teaspoon of salt in warm or warm-hot water and gargle thoroughly with it until your jaw is a litte tired or you can’t take the saltiness anymore. I would do both because getting oral thrush scares me.

2.) Yogurt

Yogurt is indeed a clean food. It is clean in taste and cleansing to the body with it billions per serving microbes that your gut loves. It cleanses the body so well that it also fights against vaginal yeast infections. When you freeze yogurt a little bit, it solidifies more and is nice to leave on your tongue and cheeks to melt away and soothe the lesions. It’s good to have 1-2 cups of yogurt a day but with this kind of condition eating 2-3 cups a day is much more effective.

3.) Coconut Oil and Castor Oil

Both have incredible, world-renowned healing and beautification properties. They are both very high in vitamins and minerals and are very angelic fats. They speed up healing, improve digestion and give energy that won’t let you crash. Castor oil is bitter and quite unpleasant while coconut oil is not, it is up to you
though. They are both fantastic but castor oil has omega-9 acids which speed up healing and cell growth. Have a full teaspoon every morning and one at night of either.

4.) Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider is known for its treatment of sore or acidic stomachs and balances the pH levels. It has enzymes that fight the yeast too, if you can’t find apple cider just get white or sherry, but apple cider works best. You can have 1-2 tablespoons of this by itself every morning or spike it with honey for an easier finish. You can also gargle or slowly slip on a cup of very warm water that is at least half apple cider. No to mention is boosts your immune system.

5.) Tea Tree Oil

Popular for pregnant women’s belly marks this great and mild smelling plant fat has powerful anti-fungal properties. You could slosh 4-6 drops of tea tree oil in your mouth mixed with a bit of water after you rub salt or gargle vinegar for a soothing oily finish to your self-medicating. Gargle mixture for a couple of minutes and do this twice a day.

6.) Baking Soda

So cheap and such a small amount that is proven to be very effective. You should make a paste with this and gargle with a bit of it in your water too, just half a teaspoon. More importantly the paste rub is effective and a lot and will also help mentally soothe the swelling pain. Take 1-2 full teaspoons of baking soda and slowly add little bits of water until you have enough to make a spreadable paste. Rub and spread this paste all over your mouth especially on the most infected areas. Do this for a few minutes, let’s say 5 so we get some shrinking of the lesions going on right away. Rinse it out and gargle your heart out.

7.) Cinnamon

Cinnamon also has anti-fungal as well as anti-parasitic properties and really helps control the growth of Candida. Pregnant women should stay away from lots of cinnamon though because it contains a chemical that encourages contractions. Cinnamon tea should be drunk twice a day, you can even make your own tea brew and throw in some herbs and spices along with cinnamon powder or bark.

8.) Garlic

An immune systems booster, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal aromatic vegetable that makes a whole lot of things taste more interesting. If you noticed, eating a lot of raw or partially cooked garlic may make your breath stink for a while but it also makes you temporarily gassy to help expel any excess gas. It helps clean out your colon too, killing harmful bacteria along the way thus, disinfecting your body. When you disinfect your body through clean eating you discourage bad microorganism to form and thrive. Don’t make yourself suffer by eating plain raw garlic, eat it with other vegetable accompaniments and hot sauce which is usually healthy and anti-bacterial too. If you love garlic, especially the raw kind this is perfect of a remedy for you.

9.) Olive Leaf or Guava leaf

Olive leaf helps destroy harmful microbes from oral thrush and boosts the immune system. Guava fruits are the highest in vitamin C which is just what you need. The leaves of the guava will help relieve any ailment of the throat that has soreness and lesions, a tea is usually brewed out of the leaves. You can also chew the guava leaf even if you just have a plain sore throat. Make a tea out of either leaf and drink twice daily, don’t skimp on the leaves and make it strong this is medicine not fine dining.
