Mistakes You Are Making When Using Concealer

Must read

Concealers come in handy when it comes to hiding those blemishes on your skin or when you want to prep your skin before you put on makeup. Most of us use it to make our skin problems disappear but many of us are making some huge mistakes with this multi-purpose product. It is understandable that many of us are not really familiar with how to use concealers to their full advantage which is why we have come up with a list of common mistakes that we make when it comes to concealers.

Applying concealer with fingers

There is a common misconception that applying concealer using your fingers is good. Unfortunately, our fingers tend to touch other makeup products that some of them get transferred to the concealer thus casting a different shade to it when we blend it on our skin. Instead of relying on your fingers, invest on an applicator or concealer brush instead.

Not testing it

Most of us just grab the first concealer that we see in stores because we think that they are all the same. This is one of the reasons why we end up with a concealer that is not appropriate for our skin tone. With that being said, it is important that you give the product a spin, as they always say, to see if it works well on you. Ask a professional to assist you so you will get the best value for your money.

Using it the wrong way

Keep in mind that concealers come in different types and textures. For example, the liquid concealer is appropriate for the skin under the eyes. Don’t use the cream formula for this area of your face as it will end up looking caked on which can highlight the creases even more. It is important that you know where to use the concealer that you have bought.

Not paying attention to the shade

Keep in mind that concealers are not all the same. They come in a variety of shades, texture, and formula. It is important that you spend some time testing the product that you are interested on so you will be able to determine whether it is appropriate for your skin tone or not. Concealers need to conceal and not standing out because you chose the wrong shade.

Using strokes during application

Another common mistake when it comes to concealers is that we often apply those using strokes. Unfortunately, this makes the concealer look visible on the skin. Experts recommend that you tap the product on the affected area so you will get an air brush finish to your skin.

Not preparing your skin

You’re probably guilty of applying concealers immediately on your skin without prepping your skin first. Yeah, prepping the skin sounds like a few more minutes wasted but you need to keep in mind that it is essential in your makeup routine. You will need to cleanse your skin first before applying anything on it so that the product will adhere better. Start with a primer followed by a moisturizer to help your skin retain moisture. Apply your concealer and the rest of your makeup afterwards.

Using too much

Again, most of us are guilty of using too much concealer on our skin because we think that this will ensure that the blemishes will disappear completely. The problem with applying too much is that it is easily seen and this can make your skin look uneven. Remember that a little goes a long way so ease up on your concealer and just use a small amount.
