Now that you have reached your 40s, you’ve probably noticed changes in your body that weren’t there before. Signs such as weight gain, lines, and wrinkles, you name it, and you’ve probably seen some of these upon closer inspection of yourself in the mirror. Although these are all part of aging, weight loss may be frustrating you to no end. After all, you are having a hard time fitting into your old dress already which can be quite annoying. The question now is, how will you be able to lose weight at this age?
Reduce your food consumption
No matter what food you are eating, the main goal here is to reduce your food consumption as much as possible. Going on a diet is all well and good, but you don’t have to go on an extreme diet to reduce weight. You can still eat the foods you like, but make sure that it is in smaller portions.
Reconsider your nutrient intake
Keeping your carb consumption regulated is highly recommended since this can prevent any age-related resistance to insulin, while keeping your blood sugar levels steady. At this point, adding more protein is recommended since it keeps your hunger at bay by ensuring that your belly is full for hours.
Reset your hormones
Another thing that you will have to deal with when you are in your forties and above is that your hormones can go out of whack. This is because you are nearing your menopausal stage where your estrogen levels will go down which can cause an imbalance in your hormone level. This means that you’ll be dealing with mood swings, weight gain, and such. Aside from changing your diet, it would be a good idea to reduce your stress levels as this can also affect your hormones.
Choose your treats wisely
As much as you would like to scarf down those fries and milk shakes that you used to when you were a teen, times have changed. You will not be able to metabolize the amount of food that you have eaten like before. With that being said, there is nothing wrong with indulging from time to time, but this time, you will need to choose your treats wisely. Instead of snacking on salty chips, or gorging on chocolate covered candies, a better option would be to have more fruits or salads even. Not only are they delicious, but they are also nutritious and can keep your hunger at bay too.
Workout
Make sure that you workout as much as you can to help you shed weight at this age. Exercising is necessary to improve your blood flow, strengthen your muscles, and even fight off free radicals in your body too. If this is your first time to workout, you should start slow then gradually work your way to the more intense workouts. Weight lifting is necessary to help tone your muscles, but don’t forget your resistance training too.
Have more water
Nowadays, we’re into drinking artificial drinks from juice, to sports drinks, and the like. Unfortunately, this habit of ours is also contributing to the amount of calories that we are consuming. If you want to avoid this problem, stick with drinking water instead. This will help flush the toxins in your body.
