How Stress Can Damage Your Skin

Must read

We all know the effects of stress on our health. But did you know that stress can also affect our skin? Read on below to find out the effects of stress on our skin and complexion.

1. Wrinkles

Being in a stressful state makes you produce the hormone cortisol which is responsible for high blood pressure, weight gain and collagen breakdown. This makes it harder for the skin to repair itself that’s why you are getting wrinkles.

2. Acne

You might have notice that when you are stressed out you tend to experience more skin breakouts. This is because stress aggravates existing skin conditions like eczema.

3. Worsen Skin Conditions

When you are stressed your body releases histamines which trigger allergies and inflammations. Examples are asthma, hay fever, hives, psoriasis and other existing skin conditions you might have.

4. Dullness

Your skin look dull when you are stress out because your skin cells take longer to reach the skin surface thereby allowing dead skin cell build-up.

5. Puffy Eyes

Stress can make us sleep less. As a result of lack of restorative sleep you may experience some skin problems like leaky capillaries. Excess liquid in your face has build-up in the delicate tissue under your eyes resulting to dark and puffy under-eye circle.
