Home Treatments for Dry and Damaged Hair

Must read

Our hair can be prone to dryness and damage especially when we’re constantly exposing it to the outside elements such as wind, sun, and rain. Add to this the dust and changing temperatures not to mention the styling products that we apply on our hair and it won’t be long before our hair strands break. Most would go to hair salons to get hair spa treatments to revive their dull looking hair but if you don’t want to spend anything, turning to natural alternatives is considerably better. As a matter of fact, here are some home remedies that can fix your dry and damaged hair fairly quickly.

Mayonnaise. Mayonnaise contains plenty of protein that can make your hair shiny and beautiful. For this treatment, you will need a cup of full-fat mayonnaise to apply on your damp hair. Massage the mayonnaise on your hair and scalp. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let it sit for an hour. Rinse afterwards with lukewarm water then shampoo as usual. You should do this treatment every week to hydrate your hair strands.

Olive oil. To bring back moisture to your hair, heat half a cup of olive oil but don’t let it boil. When it’s warm, massage the oil on your hair and scalp then cover with a plastic bag and towel. Leave the oil on for 45 minutes then shampoo afterwards. Make sure that you rinse your hair thoroughly to ensure that no oily residues remain.

Avocado. This fruit is packed with vitamins like A, E, saturated fats, protein, and other minerals that are essential for beautiful hair. For this home treatment, simply mash avocado then add jojoba oil and wheat-germ oil. Apply it on your newly washed hair from the roots to the tips. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it on for 30 minutes. Wash your hair afterwards. You can do this twice a week.

Apple cider vinegar mask. If you want to bring back life to your otherwise limp hair, try the apple cider vinegar mask. You will need to combine 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, and 3 egg whites. Mix the ingredients thoroughly then rub on your hair afterwards. Use a shower cap to cover your hair for 30 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water and your favorite shampoo.

Honey. You can never go wrong in treating dry and damaged hair with honey as it can make your hair absorb more moisture for better results. For this treatment, simply apply half a cup of honey on your freshly washed and still damp hair. Massage for a few minutes then cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse afterwards with lukewarm water. You should repeat this treatment twice a week for better results.

Wrap your hair with towel. Rubbing your hair when wet can cause damage to your hair strands. The best approach to drying your hair is wrapping your hair in your towel and letting the towel absorb the moisture for a few minutes. This way, you will be protecting your hair against split ends.

These remedies have been tried and tested and have been found quite effective when it comes to treating dry and damaged hair. Doing these treatments once or twice a week can help repair your hair so that you’ll get to regain your natural beautiful tresses in no time.
