Dandruff Remedies to Try

Must read

Dandruff affects a lot of people regardless of their age and gender. This is usually caused by a fungus called Malassezia which is quite harmless until your immune system is shot. When this happens, you are more likely to have dandruff in no time which can be pretty embarrassing especially when flakes of dead skin fall from your head on to your shoulders. Most people turn to anti-dandruff shampoos but the problem with them is that they contain chemicals that can affect your health.

The good news is that there are natural remedies available that can help you eliminate this problem and without the risk of suffering from side effects too. If you are suffering from the effects of dandruff, here are some home remedies for you to try.

Baking soda. Baking soda is one of the best home remedies available that you can use to address dandruff. This home remedy can exfoliate your skin to remove the dead skin and can kill any bacteria that are causing dandruff. For this treatment, you need to combine one tablespoon of baking soda for every cup of warm water. Either put the mixture in an old shampoo bottle so you can shake the contents or stir in a glass. Use it as a shampoo daily until you get the results you are looking for.

Honey. Raw honey is another treatment that is perfect for dandruff as it is a natural humectant that helps your hair and scalp remain moist while delivering important vitamins such as vitamins A, B-complex, C, D, E, and beta-carotene as well as minerals like magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, iron, and calcium. Wet your hair first before rubbing raw honey onto your scalp then massage gently for 2 to 3 minutes. Leave the honey on for 3 hours before rinsing. This treatment should be done every other day to find relief from dandruff.

Listerine. Listerine began as a surgical antiseptic used by dentists but over the years, this product has been proven to be useful in other areas such as mouthwash and especially to fight dandruff. To use this treatment, simply combine two parts Listerine and one part water. Put the solution in a spray bottle and spray the solution onto your scalp. You can also pour the contents over your head to let the mixture seep into your scalp. Massage gently and let it sit for 30 minutes then rinse with water.

Lemons. Another dandruff remedy that is worth using is lemon. This fruit has been found to have several health benefits to go with it including treating dandruff. The acid from freshly squeezed lemon juice can fight off the fungus that triggers dandruff. And since it doesn’t contain any chemicals, you don’t have to worry about irritations on your skin. Simply massage lemon juice on your scalp for a few minutes then let it sit for a minute. Rinse your hair with lemon juice mixed with a cup of water. You can repeat this treatment daily until you get the results you want.

Aloe vera. Aloe vera is typically used to treat burns and cuts as it can soothe the pain away. What most people don’t know is that this plant can also be used to treat dandruff. Just apply the aloe gel onto your scalp 15 minutes before you wash your hair. After 15 minutes wash your hair with water and shampoo.

These are just a few examples of dandruff relief treatments that do not contain harsh chemicals. Give them a shot to see how fast you find relief from your dandruff woes.
