A Guide to Having Healthy Hair This Summer

Must read

Summer is one of the most awaited seasons of the year which is not surprising given that this is where we get to chance to enjoy the cool waters of the ocean and even get our much-needed tans. However, it also means that you are exposing yourself to the harsh rays of the sun, which can damage your beautiful mane. The more you spend time outside, your hair can become bleached and straw-like what with the combination of chlorine and sunshine. How then will you be able to enjoy beautiful hair when you will be spending most of the time in the waters?

Well, maintaining gorgeous summer hair shouldn’t be too hard because here are a few tips that can help you out.

Wash less

Washing your hair constantly during the summer is not really recommended, as the chemicals in your hair products can easily strip your mane of its natural oils. Unfortunately, those natural oils are the ones that are helping keep your hair looking great. Without them, your hair strands will be prone to dryness. That said, when washing your hair, do it every other day. Apply some witch hazel on your scalp on days when you don’t wash to remove excess oil.

Keep your hair covered

If you are planning on going out, whether you wish to spend time at the beach, by the pool, or even your garden, you should keep your head covered as much as possible. You need to block as much sunlight as possible as it not only dries your hair up, but it can also damage your skin too. Although there are spray-on SPF hair protectors, they may not be enough to spare your hair from damage which is why you should also wear protective gears too. And because you are covering your hair with a wide brimmed hat, you are also sparing your face from aging too.

Apply leave-in conditioner

Although using leave-in conditioner can be used all year round, your hair will need it more during the summer. Keep in mind that your hair will be starved moisture which is why you should be giving it more during this season. You should apply your leave-in conditioner after each wash to help retain moisture. Your hair will thank you for it.

Skip the hot tools

Since you are dealing with plenty of heat during the summer, it’s time that you should skip styling your hair with hot tools. Let your hair air dry instead in a loose ponytail or perhaps a braid. Keep in mind that our hair strands become brittle when exposed to too much heat. If you still want to use one, make sure that you apply a heat protecting product on your hair strands before styling it. This will reduce the damage to your hair.

Use coconut oil

Coconut oil should be a staple in your home as it is one of the best DIY ingredients to be had, especially in terms of health and beauty. And when it comes to usage, coconut oil is actually good for your hair because it is packed with moisture that help replace the lost oils on your hair. You can apply this oil on your hair half an hour before you wash. This should be done every time you are going to take a bath. To remove any excess, rub some shampoo on your hair first before you wash. This will prevent the oil from clumping.
