Acupressure Points You Should Know to Fight Insomnia

We all need to get a good night’s sleep in order for our bodies to heal but when insomnia sets in, it’s going to be difficult to find the rest you need to feel refreshed and rejuvenated the following day. Most of us take sleeping pills just to combat insomnia, but when you rely too much on medication, the dosage tends to increase overtime. Fortunately, there are safer and more effective ways to treat insomnia and one of these is to use acupressure.

Acupressure is an alternative treatment that targets pressure points to address different health issues. When these points are pressed, it helps increase the energy levels flowing to encourage the body to go into a relaxed state. If you want to treat insomnia fairly quickly, you should know these acupressure points.

P6. This pressure point is located in the central part of the inner side of your forearm which is about two and half fingers width from the crease of your wrist. Pressing this point with your thumb not only alleviates insomnia, but it can also help reduce anxiety, palpitations, and indigestion which are just a few symptoms that can prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep. Press this point for one minute then do the same with the other wrist.

Shenmen. Also referred to as the “Spirit Gate”, Shenmen is located below the base of the smallest finger by the crease of your wrist. Press down on this pressure point with the thumb of your opposite hand for 20 seconds so lower your energy levels so you can go into a more relaxed state in preparation for sleep.

GV16. The GV16 is located in the center of the back of your head, in the hollow under the base of your skull. This pressure point can help relieve any sleeping disorder that you may have that has been triggered by palpitations, fright, depression, or mental stress. It is also good for treating headaches, chest tightness, and nosebleeds just to name a few.

Shimien. This is also called to as the insomnia pressure point and is located at the bottom of your foot. To locate Shimien, simply draw a line from the ankle bone to the sole of your foot and just before your heel. The point where the line intersects will be the pressure point. Applying a small amount of pressure here will help relieve your sleeping problems. Since this spot is tender, be careful when applying pressure as this shouldn’t hurt you.

GV24.5. If you are suffering from sleep apnea, the GV24.5 or Third Eye Point will help alleviate it. This pressure point is located between the eyebrows. By pressing on this point, you will be able to address various symptoms such as anxiety, fear, insomnia, depression, and panic attacks. This is also considered as a local point when it comes to treating nosebleeds and headaches.
