A set of shiny white teeth is what we all want to have. Apart from its’ obvious attractive appearance, white teeth always translates to optimal dental health and makes us look more youthful too. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with pearly whites. Most people with yellow avoid smiling because of the condition of their teeth.

There are many factors that contribute to the yellowing of the teeth. Apart from genetics, factors such as extreme climate, oral infection, improper metabolism, and antibiotics use all contribute to the yellow staining of the teeth. Traditionally, people resort to dental aesthetic procedures to whiten their teeth. Although effective, whitening treatments are not for everyone as they are expensive. Those with limited budgets resort to the use of over-the-counter whitening products. They are undoubtedly cheaper, but most contain chemicals that may also cause harm to health.

If your heart’s desire is to whiten your yellow teeth, here are some natural remedies that are just as good as traditional whitening products and procedures but are easy on the pocket.

  • Orange Peel

One natural way of getting rid of yellow teeth is by cleaning them with fresh orange peels. Don’t throw away those orange peels just yet as you can use them daily to remove the accumulated yellow stains that cover the surface of teeth.

The calcium and Vitamin C found in orange peels fight against microorganisms that may stain and damage the teeth. Ideally, rub the orange peels at night before going to bed. If you don’t have fresh orange peels, you may use dried ones too.

It may be contradictory but the red strawberry goodness can whiten your teeth too. It contains good amounts of Vitamin C that can help in getting rid of yellow discolorations over time.

Mash fresh strawberries until they achieve a paste-like consistency. Gently rub the paste onto the teeth. Ideally, this routine should be done at least twice daily to see positive results in a few weeks.

You may also combine crushed strawberries with baking soda. Let the mixture sit on your teeth for a few minutes before rinsing.

  • Hydrogen Peroxide

You don’t have to purchase this ingredient, as most bathroom cabinets already contain hydrogen peroxide. Its inherent bleaching effects will turn your sad yellow teeth into happy white again.

Choose a mouthwash that contains hydrogen peroxide. Solutions with hydrogen peroxide should not be ingested. Gargling for a few seconds with it will be more than enough for it to deliver its whitening effects.

You may also choose to combine hydrogen peroxide with baking soda for whiter results. Combine these two ingredients into a paste. Brush the mixture against your teeth for a few minutes. Don’t forget to brush with regular toothpaste after this routine. Make sure not to use too much hydrogen peroxide as this chemical may cause irritation and redness to the gum region.

  • Baking Soda

Baking soda is undoubtedly one of the most powerful remedies against yellow teeth. Additional benefit that you can derive from the use of baking soda is the removal of plaque that has formed and accumulated on the base of teeth.

Simply include a bit of baking soda on your toothpaste to make it feel gritty once it has come into contact with your teeth. Other ingredients that you can mix baking soda with are lemon juice, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide.

The oldest teeth whitening ingredient known to man is salt. It has been a fundamental teeth-cleaning agent that has been used for thousands of years. Apart from its antibacterial and teeth whitening benefits, salt also replenishes the minerals that are lost in the teeth over time.

You can combine salt with toothpaste as regular dental routine. For tougher stains, you need to combine salt with charcoal. Use this mixture similar to how you use toothpaste. Make sure to rinse your teeth thoroughly after cleansing with the charcoal and salt mix.
