Dandruff may be harmless but it can be quite the hassle. Dandruff can be caused by different reasons but the most common are sensitivity to hair products, the growth of yeast on the scalp and dry skin.
Here are seven natural remedies for dandruff:
Apple Cider Vinegar
The acidity level of the vinegar changes the pH content of the scalp, preventing the growth of yeast. To prevent the growth of dandruff, mix a quarter cup of water with a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar and apply to scalp every two days for at least a week.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has always been known for helping maintain the health of the hair and the scalp. If you want it easy, you might want to find a shampoo variety that contains coconut oil. Or massage 3-5 tablespoons of coconut oil an hour before showering. Once in the shower, shampoo normally.
Lemon
The natural acids in the lemon help in eliminating the dandruff. Massage 2 tablespoons of lemon juice into your scalp; let it settle for around 5 minutes and then rinse. Reapply a mixture of 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and 1 cup water and then rinse again.
Salt
If you want to shake out the flakes of dandruff from your hair, massage a small amount of salt into your scalp and hair before you shampoo. The abrasiveness of the salt particles will scrub the flakes out.
Aloe Vera
If your biggest complaint about the dandruff is its itchiness, you might want to try aloe vera. The cooling effect it has is known to stop itching. Some shampoos claim to have aloe vera content but in this case, going for the real thing is much better as shampoos with aloe vera already have diluted its cooling properties.
Garlic
Garlic is an anti-microbe agent and is also known as anti-dandruff. Crush a couple of cloves of garlic, rub into your scalp and then rinse before shampooing. If you do not like the sharp odor of garlic anywhere near your hair, you might want to mix the crushed garlic with some honey.
Olive Oil
Put 10 drops of olive oil into your hair before you sleep and then cover it with a shower cap. Leave it overnight and then rinse it when you wake up with shampoo. As an alternative, you can also try to find a shampoo brand that contains olive oil in supermarkets.
