Wrinkles are a sure sign of ageing. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and ability to lock in moisture thus Making it appear dry and wrinkled. We can’t stop the ageing process, but we can certainly minimize its appearance. Here are 8 ways to hide fine lines and wrinkles on your skin.
Moisturize
Skin loses its ability to lock in moisture with age, making wrinkles and fine appear more pronounced. Bring the moisture back to your skin with a moisturizer and hide those fine lines. Make sure you apply plenty of moisturizer particularly in areas where you have a lot of wrinkles. WebMD recommends using a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid, a powerful humectant or a moisture-binding ingredient that helps keep skin plump and moisturized.
Retinoid
Retinoid is a form of vitamin A that has the ability to boost collagen production to reduce wrinkles and speed up cell turnover to even out skin tone and smooth the skin. Retinoid was first prescribed as treatment for acne. Dermatologist soon noticed that patients on retinoid didn’t just have clearer, but softer, brighter skin with fewer lines.
Retinoid is available as a prescription medication or over the counter as retinol. Use as directed and be patient as most products take time to work.
Retinoic acid, the active ingredient in retinoid, is sensitive to sunlight. That is why it is recommended to apply it before you go to bed at night and sunscreen during the day.
Retinoids can cause dryness, redness, and flakiness. Start by applying retinoid every third night for the first two weeks then every other night for the next two weeks. When you notice that you have reduced dryness and flakiness, you can start applying it every night. Apply a basic moisturizer to prevent dryness.
Silicon primer
Smooth on a silicon primer after you moisturize and before you put on your foundation. Applying a silicon primer as a makeup base helps smooth wrinkles by filling in skin unevenness and fine lines.
Foundation
Many women make the mistake of concealing their wrinkles with heavy foundation and powders. Applying heavy coverage only draws more attention to them.
Instead of heavy matte foundations, use a sheer, hydrating foundation or a tinted moisturizer. Hydrating formulas and tinted moisturizers provide a light to medium coverage and won’t settle into your wrinkles.
Cover only the areas that need covering up. Choose a foundation a shade or two darker than your actual skin tone. Lighter shades only makes wrinkles more visible.
Powder
Lighten up on the powder. Instead of using powder all over your face, consider just using it on your nose and chin. Powder sits on your wrinkles, making them more noticeable.
If you must wear powder, apply a light dusting of lose, mineral powder. WebMD recommends using powders that contain mica micro-particles. These particles reflect light, giving your skin a healthy radiance.
Play up your eyes
Highlighting your eyes moves people’s attention from your face—and all of your wrinkles—to your beautiful hazel, brown, blue or green eyes.
Use matte eye shadows instead of metallic, shimmery ones. The shimmer in metallic eye shadows makes fine lines more obvious, thereby drawing more attention to them. When choosing colors, neutrals work best. Use lighter shades on the lids and soft neutrals in the crease of your eye lids.
Wear the right blush
Wearing too much or not enough blush can highlight the wrinkles under and around the eyes. Choose a shimmer-free rose or peach blush. Start on the apples of the cheeks and sweep it up and stopping just beneath the outer corners of the eyes. This softens the area and draws the attention away from the eyes.
Wear a fringe
Bangs automatically makes us think of playschool hairdos—and that’s exactly what we want. Bangs are associated with youth and they hide fine lines on your forehead faster than any cream. Consider getting yourself some bangs to cover up a wrinkled forehead or to draw attention to your eyes. You can ask your stylist for soft bangs that gradually merge with the rest of your hair
