We often rely on coffee and other unhealthy foods to keep us awake, especially during the afternoon. Below are healthy and delicious foods that will surely get you going all day long.
Try putting these foods in your mouth to keep you wide awake. There’s no coffee required, just healthy foods.
Water
Dehydration can make you feel sluggish and sleepy. Fatigue is also a common symptom of dehydration. So drinking water is a good step to fight sleepiness and stay awake.
Green Tea
Getting plenty of fluids will help boost your alertness. Water is the best bet for hydration, but if you want to have caffeine, choose green tea instead of coffee. Green tea has less caffeine, so you will not have the same come-down once it wears off. On the plus side, it is rich in antioxidants.
Whole Grains
The body converts carbohydrates into energy. Whole grains break down more slowly than simple refined sugar, giving you a steady energy release. Try eating oats, brown rice, rye and barley. If you want something to go with your whole grain toast, try half a banana and a natural peanut butter.
Fruits
Fruits contain sugars for that quick energy burst, but they don’t boost your glucose levels as much as candy, which makes you crash and burn. Choose fruits rich in vitamin C, such as pineapple and oranges , which help your body convert fat to energy, helping you to fight off fatigue.
Protein
Protein offers a slow energy release. Choose lean meats, such as turkey to give your body the fuel boost needed to get through a long afternoon.
Chocolate
Cocoa beans contain caffeine, but not as much as coffee. On the plus side, chocolate also contain good for the heart flavonoids. Remember, the darker the chocolate, the more caffeine it has.
But always remember not to overindulge in dark chocolate. Like almost anything dessert-worthy, it is best consumed in moderation.
