Treating Vaginal Odor

Must read

Vaginal odor can happen from time to time even though you’ve been careful with your hygiene. This odor is usually this sharp smell that emanates from your vagina which can be accompanied by burning, irritation, itching, and even discharge which can be uncomfortable. There are many factors that can cause the smell to appear in the first place such as poor hygiene, bacterial vaginosis, changes in your hormones, and trichomoniasis. It is also possible that your menstrual cycle leaves that metallic smell which can disappear after a few days.

The question now is, how will you be able to remove vaginal odor? Although our vagina can cleanse itself, it’s not a bad idea to speed up things with the help of natural treatments such as the ones found below.

Change your choice of underwear

When it comes to underwear, wearing panties that are made from satin, polyester, or silk even is not really recommended as it can trap moisture in your vagina which can worsen your condition. A better option is to go for cotton underwear since cotton is breathable and can help remove the excess moisture, fluids, and sweat too. When there is too much moisture in your vagina, it can increase the amount of bacteria present there.

Essential tea tree oil

Another possible treatment that you can use for your vaginal odor is tea tree oil. Of course, you will have to dilute this oil first before using it as a vaginal wash to reduce inflammation. Another way to use this essential oil is that you can add 3 drops of essential oil along with 500 ml apple cider vinegar then soak in it for about half an hour. You will need to use this treatment three to four times a week.

Yogurt

We all know that yogurt is good for your health, especially in your gut, but did you know that it is often used to treat vaginal disorders such as vaginal odor? Yogurt is known to contain lactobacillus which is important in bringing balance to the pH levels in the vaginal area. This is a treatment that is used for yeast infections which is good.

Vinegar

Another treatment that can help reduce vaginal odor is to use vinegar. We are all guilty of taking hot or warm baths almost every day but this practice can harm the pH levels in your vagina which can trigger vaginal odor. Fortunately, a vinegar bath can be of good use to your vaginal health because it can reduce the amount of bacteria present there. You will have to add a cup or two of apple cider vinegar to your bath water then soak in it for 20 minutes. The acetic nature of the vinegar will be able to eliminate bacterial overgrowth in your vagina.

Coconut oil

What else can you use to treat your vaginal odor? It appears that applying coconut oil on your vaginal area on a daily basis can help eliminate the smell that is emanating from it. What’s great about this oil is that it is rich in healthy fats and that it can be absorbed better in the skin too.

Use exterior deodorants

If you tend to apply perfumes or sprays on your vaginal area, you might be using it wrong. Remember that these products are for the outer area only and not inside. The chemical components that they have can lead to an imbalance in your pH levels which can lead to other vaginal problems.
