Must read

When it comes to our health, we need to think twice about the kinds of food that we eat. Carbohydrates do play a role on our diet as they help deliver glucose which is converted into energy. However, too much carbs can have a dangerous impact to our health as it can cause weight gain, and even increase one’s risk from diabetes. It’s true that there are plenty of steps that you can take to reduce your carb intake such as cutting back refined sugars from your diet but this can be daunting for many. How then will you be able to get your carb consumption in check?

Remove the bun

There is a common misconception that we need buns to hold our sandwiches together. And although we do need bread for this kind of meal, you don’t have to stick with it all the time. As a matter of fact, you can swap the bun with some lettuce wraps or even roll ups with the meat becoming the wrap for your cheese and other fillings. The sky is the limit when it comes to your sandwich making skills so get creative.

Eliminate sugary drinks

This is going to be hard for most of us as we are suckers for anything sweet. Soda, fruit juices, even energy drinks are often high in sugar content which is why you need to reduce your intake of them until you manage to eliminate them from your diet altogether. Reducing or eliminating your sugar intake can reduce your risk from diabetes significantly plus it will help keep your weight down too.

Go cauliflowers

Our rice intake can actually elevate the carbohydrates in our body which is why you might want to look for alternatives for this. Well, you don’t have to look very far for a good substitute to rice because cauliflowers are just perfect for the job. You can actually mask cauliflower with toppings like cheese and bacon or other ingredients if you like. You can even mash some cauliflower in place of mashed potatoes too if you like. None will be the wiser.

Have some eggs for breakfast

We may not notice this but there are some breakfast foods that are adding carbs to our system already. For example, half a cup of granola cereal already has 30 grams of digestible carbs even without the milk. Now think about how much you are consuming when you do add milk into the mix. A better alternative to this is going for eggs instead in the morning. What’s great about eggs is that each egg has less than 1 gram in terms of carbs plus they are one of the best sources of high-quality protein too. You’ll find that your stomach will feel full for hours with egg for breakfast.

Try caffeine gum in place of lattes

It’s easy enough for us to go back to craving some sugary fix hence we give in to the pull of coffee shops. We might regret it later on, gulping down that sweet stuff that claims to be coffee, but then our taste buds are all tingling with the sugar buzz. Most likely we will be looking for more sweets which can actually cause our carbs intake go up. If you do feel the need to sip something sweet, have some caffeine gum instead. Caffeinated gums are free from sugar content but it does have the same caffeine content as cup of coffee.
