We all know how embarrassing it is to see white flakes falling down on our shoulders every time we brush our hair or run our fingers through our hair. Dandruff can take a toll on us especially when the number of flakes that fall is too many for comfort. One of the leading causes of dandruff is having dry scalp which can be caused by too much hair products, poor diet, and even medication just to name a few. There are medications that can be applied directly on to our hair and scalp but sometimes going the natural route can produce better results.
One of the best solutions that you can use when it comes to dandruff is baking soda. What’s great about this kitchen staple is that it has the ability to absorb excess oil on the scalp and hair so that you will have smoother and healthier looking hair. Also, baking soda kills off any fungus or bacteria that is causing dandruff to appear. It doesn’t dry your hair which is why it is a useful choice when it comes to treating dandruff.
Now that you have an idea on how baking soda can help you with your dandruff problem, here are some recipes to try to correct this hair condition of yours.
Apple cider vinegar and baking soda
What makes this dandruff effective is that acidic nature of apple cider vinegar regulates the alkalinity of baking soda. This combination actually helps in bringing back your scalp’s natural pH levels. This dandruff remedy has antimicrobial properties that can eliminate any fungal infections that may be causing dandruff to occur. For this treatment, you will need 2 teaspoons of baking soda and 2 to 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Mix the ingredients then apply on your scalp. Massage for one to two minutes then rinse thoroughly with cool water. You can repeat this two times a week.
Baking soda and water
Another effective dandruff treatment is to mix water with baking soda. Simply mix two tablespoons of baking soda to warm water then stir well. Massage the solution to your scalp for a few minutes then leave it on for five minutes. Wash your hair with mild natural shampoo afterwards. You can use this treatment every time you take a bath to reduce the flakes falling from your head.
Lemon and baking soda
You should also try the lemon and baking soda combination when you have dandruff problems as lemon juice has natural astringent properties that can eliminate any fungus that is causing dandruff. In this recipe, you will need to mix 2 tablespoons of lemon juice with 1 ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Mix them together until you create a thin paste which you need to apply on your scalp afterwards. Massage your hair and scalp for 2 to 3 minutes then wash it afterwards with cool water. You need to do this at least twice a week.
Ginger and baking soda
Dandruff can also be treated with some ginger and baking soda. This is because ginger juice can actually prevent the growth of yeast on your scalp. Baking soda, on the other hand, can clear off any dandruff flakes that will be cleared by the ginger from your scalp. For this remedy, you should add one tablespoon of baking to a teaspoon of ginger juice. You can also add some water to the mixture if you think that the ginger juice is too concentrated. Mix the ingredients thoroughly before applying on the scalp for about five minutes. Wash your hair and scalp afterwards with warm water.
