Excited to make your very first batch of homemade lip balm containing aloe vera? Here’s the simple recipe:

Ingredients:

1 1/2 tablespoons of coconut oil

1/2 tablespoon of beeswax (pellets or grated)

1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel

1 teaspoon of cocoa butter

10 drops of vitamin E oil

5 to 8 drops of your favorite essential oil

Directions:

-Using a double boiler on medium heat, melt together coconut oil, beeswax, and cocoa butter. If you’re using beeswax in pellet form, just dump half a tablespoon of it in the double boiler. If what you have is a block of beeswax, have it grated first for easy melting.

-If you don’t have a double boiler, fill 1/4 of a sauce pan with water. Bring it to a boil using medium heat. Once boiling, carefully place a glass bowl on top of the sauce pan — that’s where you will melt the ingredients.

-Keep on stirring and turn off the heat once all of the solid ingredients have completely melted. Also, remove the upper compartment of the double boiler (or the glass bowl if you’re using a makeshift double boiler) and place it on your kitchen counter. Allow it to cool for a bit.

-Once already near room temperature, add aloe vera gel, cocoa butter, vitamin E oil and your preferred essential oil. Give everything a good stir.

-Do you want your DIY lip balm to have a nice color? If so, you may add a few drops of food coloring — it’s completely up to you which color to go for!

-Transfer to a small glass jar with a cap. Stash in the refrigerator for a few minutes until completely solidified.
