Tips and Tricks on Dealing with Oily Skin

Must read

It’s quite frustrating to go through blotting paper like crazy or when you can’t seem to get a break from all the zits that often appear on your face in the most unexpected occassions. You’re probably wondering whether there is something missing in your skin care regimen or if you have some form of health problem that is causing your oil production to go overdrive. Genetics do play a part in the condition of your skin but so are hormonal imbalances, stress, diet, and environmental factors as well. The question now is, how will you be able to deal with your oily skin so you won’t be too shiny by the afternoon.

Find the culprit. It is always a good idea to find the reason why your skin is producing too much oil. If your family has oily skin, chances are that you have it too. On the other hand, if there are other underlying factors like stress, diet, and even poor hygiene, you should take steps to address these problems to minimize overproduction of sebum.

Look for the best cleanser. Not all cleansers that are being sold today are appropriate for the kind of skin that you have. Most of us are not even aware that the cleansers that we are using are too harsh for our skin hence it becomes dry and prone to bacteria growing on our skin. With that being said, it is important that you look for a gentle cleanser that is not alcohol-based to avoid drying your skin out. Oil-based cleansers are useful because they can be absorbed quickly.

Use a toner. Aside from cleansers, using a toner is highly recommended as it can help balance the pH levels of your skin. What’s even better is that you can make your own toner by mixing equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water. Mix the ingredients thoroughly then use a cotton ball or pad to wipe the toner on your face.

Keep hydrating. Another trick to help you deal with your oily skin is to stay hydrated. If your body doesn’t have enough fluids in it, your skin will become dry and prone to more oil being produced. Drinking water can actually help flush out any toxins as well as blockages on your skin so you don’t have to worry about your pores being clogged and you end up with zits all over your face. Aside from water, there are other sources of water like fruits and vegetables that can help you stay hydrated throughout the day.

Cold black tea. Drinking tea does help with providing you with useful antioxidants that can combat free radicals that are damaging your skin cells, but aside from this, did y ou know that you can also use your tea bag to help reduce pores to minimize the appearance of zits and other blemishes? Simply place a black tea bag in a cup of cold water for a few minutes. Remove the tea bag and place it on your face to help soothe the skin and to reduce the size of your pores.

Choose the right makeup. For those with oily skin, choosing the right makeup for your skin type is imperative to prevent clogging your pores further. Stay away from liquid foundation or creams that are too heavy on your skin. Mousse-based foundations or those aerosoled ones are ideal for oily skin. But regardless of what kind of makeup you are wearing, make it a habit to wipe it off before you go to bed. Don’t let any residue get left behind as it can clog your pores and trigger acne breakouts.
