DIY Organic Makeup Solutions to Try

Must read

Going organic may be your goal this year but don’t limit it to your food alone. You’ll be surprised to find that you can also go organic when it comes to your makeup. Regardless of whether you are just starting your makeup routine at home or are already a pro, these organic makeup solutions are worth trying.

Mascara and eyeliner. Smokey eyes have always been a staple in many makeup routine but why use separate eyeliner and mascara when you can make one combined? You will need ½ teaspoon of coconut oil, 2 teaspoons of aloe vera gel, ¾ teaspoon of beeswax, ½ teaspoon of shea butter, and a capsule of activated charcoal. Put the beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, and aloe vera in your double boiler and heat in low heat until all the ingredients have melted. Open the activated charcoal capsule and add to the mix. Pour the mixture in your old mascara tube and allow to cool.

Organic foundation. Foundations play an important role in your makeup routine but some products have high chemical content. Fortunately, you can make your own foundation using shea butter, beeswax, almond oil, cocoa butter, and vitamin E. Add zinc oxide and you’re done. These skin nourishing ingredients will help boost your skin’s health as you apply a thin layer of foundation prior to makeup. The best part is that you’ll get protection from the sun as well so it’s a huge relief as well.

Eye shadow and face powder. The problem with many face powder and eye shadows is that they have talc to prevent caking. Unfortunately, talc has asbestos which can cause cancer cells to form in the lungs and breast when used constantly. The good news is that you can make your own with a few ingredients such as arrow root and your choice of beet powder if you want pink eye shadow, activated charcoal for gray or black eye shadow, cocoa powder if you want brown eyeshadow, spirulina for green eye shadow, and nutmeg for golden brown eye shadow. To make your eye shadow, simply use a quarter of a teaspoon of arrowroot and your choice of color until you get the desired shade. When it comes to face powder, you should start with a tablespoon of arrowroot then slowly add your cocoa and nutmeg until you have achieved the right shade for your skin tone.

Bronzer. One of the easiest makeups that you can do is the bronzer. The ingredients are quite simple. You will need some cinnamon, corn starch, cocoa powder, and plain body lotion. To make your bronzer, you should combine small amounts of cocoa powder, cinnamon, as well as corn starch until you have achieved a color that works nicely on your skin. You can test the bronzer by swiping a small amount on your skin. If you want to lighten your bronzer, add more cornstarch. Add more cocoa powder to the mixture if you want to darken it. Ease up on the use of cinnamon if you have sensitive skin. Cinnamon works as a natural highlighter but it gives that tingly feeling on the skin.

These are just a few examples of organic makeup that you can do on your own. One of the best things about making your own makeup is that you know what ingredients go into your makeup. This means you have better control on what goes on your skin compared to just buying whatever it is in the market. And because the ingredients are available, you can mix them any time you want with less cost on your part.
